SOUTHVIEW NEWS 2001
Taking the Journey from 2000 to 2001 - it really is an odyssey.
Hello to all of our guests, and a very Happy New Year. We wish each and every one of
you health and prosperity in the coming year, and look forward to seeing all of you at
Southview again this year.
THE YEAR THAT WAS
It seems like just a week ago we closed up the cottages and got started on another year of
reservations, renovations and upgrades. Our 2000 season was a very good one for our
guests and us at Southview. Although the weather was not the best we had seen in June
and July, the fishing was wonderful. August added great weather, and the fall was very
nice as well.
Bluegill, Bass and Walleye fishing were fantastic this year, with near record catches on
the lake. Perch were plentiful, and Crappie dominated the spring (May) catches. We will
be opening a week earlier this year for the Crappie fishing, as well as the Crappie Tourby
which will be held from May 4 till May 10 2001, more on this later in the News.
RENOVATED COTTAGES
Our work last year paid off, our customers complimented us on the many renovations to
the 14 cottages we did last year, which provided new vaulted ceilings, pine interiors,
upgraded electrical and propane services, flooring, windows, air-conditioning, easy
electric heat, and a bird house for your enjoyment.
WOULD YOU BELIEVE
We have done it again - more new additions to our boat fleet.
- 6 more new 16' deluxe boats and 15hp electric start engines with pedestal seats,
livewell, running lights and bilge pumps - these boats proved to be very popular by the
groups who used them, we were told by many that they were ''the best fishing boat they
had ever used.''
- 1 more Pontoon boat and engine to bring our fleet to 6
- all new 9.9hp mercury engines for trouble free operation
- all our 14 foot boats have a new blue paint job so you will look great on the lake
- 2 new paddle boats joined the fleet last year
- our bass boat fleet is the best on the lake
- our canoes, kayaks, sailing dinghies and paddle boats are all yours to enjoy at no
cost, just sign them out from the office
WHAT'S HAPPENING
We seem to be busy every year upgrading Southview to keep up with the changing
attitudes of todays fishermen, vacationist, and their families. Yesterday what was
considered a luxury, may be considered a necessity today. This fall and winter is no
exception, our renovations continue with the complete renovation of 5 cottages, number
4, 25, 26, 27 and 30. These cottages will be finished in pine, with vaulted ceilings,
insulation, newly laid out interiors, kitchens, floors, windows and of course
air-conditioning and electric heating.
As well, 8 bathrooms will be completely renovated with an all new lay out. Another 5
cottages will have installed new heating / air-conditioning units.
We have dug 1200 feet of trench since we closed and now have 90% of our electrical
services under ground, all cottages now have their own 60 amp. services which comes in
handy with the air-conditioning.
Our water system is seeing an upgrade so that we will continue to have an excellent
source of water for us all, we do not want to be without this resource.
14 cottages will see upgraded furniture of a rustic log nature to go with our Canadiana
feel.
Do any of you golf? - We have installed a Pro Putt green and tee off area for your
enjoyment.
